Historical Monuments

     In all the settlements in Dve Mogili Municipality there are raised monuments related to the historical memory of people and perpetuating the heroism of the fighters for liberation and independence. Opalchentsi were Bulgarian voluntary army units, who took part in the Serbo-Turkish War of 1876 and the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878. The people in these units were called opalchenets-pobornik meaning "volunteer combatant".

     Grateful population pays tribute to the Russian soldiers who have died for the liberation of Bulgaria, expressing their attitude to the construction of monuments in honor of heroes. There are such Russian monuments in the villages of Katselovo, Buzovets, Pomen, Chilnov, Shirokovo and Baniska.

  • In the village of Katselovo
    "At this place on 24 August 1877 the Captain of the 33-th Artillery Brigade Vladimir Nezhintsov and the captain of the General Staff Yanko Voevodich died in fight with the Turks."
  • In the village of Buzovets – a Russian monument
  • In the village of Pomen - Monument of the Russo-Turkish War
  • In the village of Chilnov
    "In honor of lieutenant Alexandar Fyodorovich Chomutov the hero of the Russo-Turkish War from the 139-th Infantry Marshall Regiment who died on 04 January 1878."
  • In the village of Shirokovo
    "At this place from 6 to 25 August 1877 there was situated the headquarters of Ruschuk Force of the Russian Liberation Army."
  • In the village of Baniska - two monuments of the Russian soldiers who have died in the area of "Balabandere"
